FOME’s biannual conference is held in Oslo

BI campus in Oslo

The biannual Future of Management Education Alliance conference was held in late June 2022 at the impressive BI Campus in Oslo. FOME members attended both in-person and remotely, to embark on discussions around the future direction of the alliance and best practice in online education as the pandemic’s impact on higher education recedes.

The location of this year’s conference held special significance as it was also the site of the inaugural FOME conference in 2018, the year the alliance was established. FOME’s chair-holding school, BI, spearheaded a busy agenda, including an evaluation of activities across working groups and the setting of priorities for the alliance moving forward. As the alliance continues to grow, its ambitions to tap into new networks and to collaborate with a wider range of partners gain momentum. A reevaluation and revision of the FOME bylaws has facilitated a consolidated structure to fuel the alliance’s progress in extending its global reach, recognition, and future-focus.

The alliance remotely hosted insendi CTO Chris Jackson, who provided an update of improvements to the administrative user journey, a welcome development for member schools. Also joining remotely was Alessandro di Lullo, co-founder at SuperCharger Ventures. SuperCharger Ventures has worked closely with six FOME member schools and insendi to source technological solutions to institutional pain points.

Speakers at the conference included the outgoing and incoming presidents at BI, both of whom recognised the contributions of FOME members in shaping and sharing best practice in digital education and the positive impact this has had on BI’s own suite of online and blended courses. BI Associate Dean and FOME Chair Anne Berit Swanberg rounded out the two-day conference by passing the chairship onto Nasser Spear, of the University of Melbourne, who will lead the management committee through FOME’s next exciting phase of development. A change to the bylaws means that, for the first time, the chair will have a one year term and will be supported by a deputy chair. Enzo Peruffo, from Luiss Business School in Rome, will serve as the alliance’s first deputy chair.

The next FOME conference will be held in November 2022 at the University of Melbourne.
